Job Description

Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) – Acute Care

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our acute care team. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical expertise managing medically complex and high-acuity patients in a hospital setting. This role requires clinical independence, critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in an acute care hospital environment
  • Perform bedside and instrumental swallowing evaluations as clinically indicated
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for medically complex patients
  • Document evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge recommendations in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, case management, and rehabilitation staff
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on treatment plans and safety strategies
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning
  • Ensure compliance with NYSED, hospital policies, and evidence-based practice standards

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist in an acute care hospital setting
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-acuity and medically complex cases
  • Valid New York State Education Department (NYSED) license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (required)
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospital environment

Schedule Requirements

  • 4 weekdays and 1 weekend day
  • Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • First Interview: 10–15 minute phone screening
  • Second Interview: In-person interview
